Attendance Policy

Attendance: Every Day Matters!

P10X is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where every student can learn, grow, thrive and be happy. Every Day Matters and Every Student Matters, and our school community is stronger when your child is present each day!

Regular attendance is essential to your child’s academic achievement, social-emotional development, and overall success. The more time students spend in school, the more opportunities they have to learn, build meaningful relationships, receive supports, and participate in their school community

We also understand that getting to school every day is not always easy. Illness, family emergencies, transportation concerns, religious reasons, housing changes, and other circumstances may sometimes effect attendance.

We are here to support you and your family. Please contact our school staff to get connected to what you need for your child to attend school consistently and succeed.

Our School’s Attendance Policy

In accordance with NYC Public Schools Attendance Requirements and Chancellor’s Regulation A-210, NYCPS students are expected to:

  • Attend school every school day
  • Arrive at school on time
  • Remain in school for the full instructional day unless there is an approved reason to leave early
  • Participate consistently in classes and instructional programs
  • Complete missed assignments or make-up work following an absence when appropriate

Families are encouraged to communicate with school staff whenever a student will be absent or late and provide the reason for the absence or lateness.

Excused absences are still absences.  While schools can mark an absence as “excused” for religious reason, illness, or some/several other reasons, the “excused” absence is still considered an absence and must be part of the student’s school record.

Student attendance records in the New York City Public School’s electronic system cannot be revised after the middle of July of that school year.

However, attendance records may be amended by submitting a letter to be entered into the student’s file.  You can ask school staff for your child’s attendance record or track your child’s attendance in your NYC Schools Account: https://www.schoolsaccount.nyc/

How Families Can Help

Families can support strong attendance by establishing consistent morning and bedtime routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours whenever possible, communicating with school staff when challenges arise, and encouraging your children to attend school every day.

If transportation, housing, medical needs, family circumstances, or other barriers are effecting your child’s attendance, please reach out to school staff immediately. Our school team will work with you to identify available supports and resources.

We Are Here to Support You

Strong attendance is a partnership between students, families, and schools.

If your child is having difficulty attending school consistently, please contact us as soon as possible. Early communication allows us to provide support and work together toward solutions.  School staff are required to contact families following student absences to inquire as to the reason why they are not in school.  Families are asked to provide a reason for each absence as this must be reported in the Attendance Tracking System.  Please make certain that your child’s school has correct, up-to-date contact numbers and addresses so they can reach you.
