The New York City Department of Education's (NYCDOE) Chancellor's Regulations cover a wide range of policies, divided into four sections:
The Discipline Code is also known as the Citywide Behavioral Expectations to Support Student Learning. It:
- Is age-specific with one set for grades K-5 and another for grades 6-12.
- Explains the standards for behavior in the New York City public schools
- Describes supports, interventions, and disciplinary measures that schools can use when students misbehave
- Explains how you can appeal decisions
- Includes the Student’s Bill of Rights and Responsibilities
How do students do well in school? They go every day! Students may miss school for illness, emergencies, or for religious reasons, but we want to see every student in school every day. Did you know that a student with 90% attendance has missed one month of school by the end of the year? Students with less than 90% attendance are more likely to have lower test scores and not graduate from high school.
